Melody’s Birth Story

On Thursday, February 23rd we went to McDonald's to eat lunch and play for Miriam's birthday. After we had lunch & cupcakes, I got up to go to the bathroom and felt a "gush." When we were getting ready to leave, I felt a couple of more "gushes." I didn't say anything to anyone just because I wasn't sure that it was finally happening. We got home and I had a couple of more "gushes." I called Craig and he came home immediately. Once he got home, we left for the hospital. He called the midwife on call to let her know we were on the way. We got caught in some traffic on the way and the contractions seemed to be coming on top of each other at that time or I was just really stressed. So he called the midwife to tell them to have the birthing tub ready when we got there. When we got there, the contractions were still coming pretty strong. They got me admitted and started my first round of antibiotics because I was positive for Group B Strep. I was already at 7 cm when they checked me. After they got the iv started, I calmed down some and then it seemed that the contractions stalled for a while. Eventually Amy and Laura made me start walking the halls to try to get something started again. After walking up and down the halls for a while, my water bag started gushing again. It wasn't broken totally, but just had a leak in it. The contractions started up again, but when the midwife checked me it didn't appear that I had progressed any. So they started the 2nd round of antibiotics. After that round, the midwife came back to check me and we decided to break my water bag so I would progress. The contractions finally started coming strong and I kept saying that I couldn't do this. When I tried pushing while I was on my back, my back started hurting me alot. So the midwife had me stand up and lean over on the tub. This is how I ended up delivery her.
