Because paper was hard to come by in the colonial times, every bit was saved and put to use. Colonists from France brought the art of decoupage to North America. We also talked about how students used chalk slates at school.
Last week, we read the book Life in New France about the French colonies in Canada. There was a recipe at the end of the book on how to make maple candy. Settlers would drizzle the candy over the snow to let it harden.
For dinner, Luke & I made some of the recipes from the book Colonial Kids: cornbread, spanish rice or paella, baked apples and apple cider.
