A Sling and Some Stones

Yesterday we read in 1 Samuel 17 how David killed Goliath with a sling and some stones.

Here's what an ancient sling might have looked like.
"Slingers are often visualized as releasing overhead, yet the best way to utilize a sling is by an underhand motion, like a softball pitcher," said Grace Kellner, Artifacts Registrar of the Kh. el-Maqatir excavation. "Elaborate wind-ups were wasted motion. One windup, like a good softball pitcher, was sufficient. - taken from http://www.biblestudysite.com/arch.htm

Since the Shelbys were over today while Amy went to her 1st OB appointment, we decided to make the slings that were suggested in our Old Testament Days book.

Abram getting read to throw

Look how happy he is because he got it to work

look at Tate's concentration

Luke was frustrated because he couldn't do it

Cade could sling it really good...it made a whipping sound when he let go

FYI...they were "slinging" plastic golf balls...no stones...didn't want any broken windows
The other boys didn't try theirs out...
too busy playing with all the other "cool" stuff at Aunt Candi's
