Israelite weaponry

We're back to studying about the Israelites. Today, we read from Joshua 6-13 about all the conquers of the Israelites as they moved into the Promise Land.

An activity that was suggested was to make an armored vest. We adapted it a little and made shields and a sickle.

"Joshua led the Israelite soldiers into many battles to conquer the land of Canaan. However, they didn't have many weapons to use. Most of their battles were fought with hand tools, arrows, and slings. Axes, clubs, and swords were used to fight enemies up close. The soldiers used small swords curved like a crescent moon...

Axes were common tools among the people - used to chop wood, make farm tools, and cut animal hides - and therefore were often used as weapons in hand-to-hand combat. To protect themselves from axes and sharp arrows in battles, soldiers created armored vests from pieces of clay, metal scales, or plates that they would sew on their tunics."

I had Luke write the following scripture on his shield:"Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield." Psalm 33:20 (English Standard Version)
